Fascia Board Blown Away & Birds Start to Roost There in Fair Haven, NJ
A short while ago, a nasty storm had blown a portion of the fascia boards right off this customers home in Fair Haven, NJ. A short while later, a few starlings came by and decided to nest in that area! This didn't make the homeowner happy and so he called Bird Solutions by Cowleys for help and we were sent out.
Once we arrived, the first thing we did was carefully remove all the nesting debris. Next, we disinfected the areas with an application that attacks and exterminates bird mites. What are bird mites exactly? They are semi-transparent parasites that feed on the blood of birds. Once the birds leave their nests, the mites are left behind without a host for their next blood meal, so they make their way into a home and then feed on the blood of you, your family, and your pets!
Lastly, we replaced the fascia board with sturdy metal flashing to exclude the area from all nuisance birds, bats, and other wildlife.
Bald-Faced Hornets Infesting the Attic in Fair Haven, NJ
One day, this homeowner in Fair Haven, NJ was cleaning out his attic when all of a sudden, he was attacked by a number of hornets! He quickly left the attic and took a look on the outside of his home. That's when he discovered a soccer-ball sized hornets nest about 50 feet up at the peak of his home. He called Cowleys for help and we were sent out.
Once we arrived and investigated the nest, we identified them as bald-faced hornets. Bald-faced hornets are social stinging insects that have white markings on their face. They're EXTREMELY aggressive and territorial. So aggressive that if anyone or anything comes within close proximity of their nest, they will attack! What makes them even scarier is they can actually sense vibrations in the air (when you mow your lawn) and remember their invader's face! Using our extendable pole, we treated the bald-faced hornet nest with a knockdown aerosol application.
A short while later, we injected a knockdown dusting application into the nest. Both of these treatments quickly exterminate the bald-faced hornets. After some time had passed, we removed the nest, disposed of it, and applied a liquid non-repellant residual to the area. As we removed the nest we noticed a small gap around a utility wire. This was how the hornets were getting into the attic! We sealed it up with a premium, waterproof adhesive. The residual that we applied will neutralize any bald-faced hornets that return to this area and prevent them, and any other stinging insect, from building a new nest.
Attic Needs New Blown-in Cellulose Insulation in Fair Haven, NJ
This customer in Fair Haven, NJ was in desperate need of adding new blown-in cellulose insulation to her attic, so she contacted our Attic Systems division and we were sent out. The first thing we did was remove every single piece of fiberglass insulation throughout the attic space and clean the area. After that, we installed Tight Shell Can Light Covers over the recessed lights and then air sealed them and all the gaps and cracks throughout the attic. Next, we added over 10 inches of TruSoft blown-in cellulose insulation throughout the attic. TruSoft insulation maximizes home comfort, has the highest Class-1 fire safety rating, is resistant to mold and pests, is eco-friendly, and optimizes energy usage for year-round peace and savings for the homeowner.he recessed lights. Finally, we installed ComfortTherm® Insulation to one area of the attic wall. ComfortTherm® Insulation is poly-encapsulated and helps to preserve the air quality, reduce energy costs, provide excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates.
Gable Vent Gets Wrecked by Raccoons in Little Silver, NJ
A new customer in Little Silver, NJ contacted our Little Rascals Nuisance Wildlife Division after seeing a raccoon rip apart his gable vent and enter his home. Over time, the gable vents get weathered and dry rotted. This makes it easier for raccoons as well as squirrels to break into the home.
After we safely removed and relocated the raccoons to a new, humane environment, we disinfected the attic area and removed the old, broken gable vent. We did offer to replace the gable vent, but the homeowner mentioned that he will fix it on his own at a later date. As a temporary solution, we installed Pest-Blok over the gable vent. Pest-Blok doesn't restrict the airflow to the attic, undergoes a silicone-protected polyester coating process that makes it last longer, and guards the home against raccoons, squirrels, pests, birds, and all other nuisance wildlife.
Squirrels Infiltrate the Gutters in Little Silver, NJ
A property manager of an apartment complex in Little Silver, NJ, called Little Rascals for assistance after his maintenance team found several squirrels in one of his tenants' attic. When we arrived, we started thoroughly inspecting the exterior of the building and noticed squirrel hair near the gutters. We took a closer look and determined that the squirrels were entering the unit via the builders gap. A builders gap is the gap between the fascia board, where the gutter is hung, and the roof decking. It's caused when roof decking is stopped too short and isn't flush with the fascia. The gap is meant to help with airflow throughout the attic, but also presents an opportunity for squirrels, as well as raccoons, birds, and bats, to infest the attic.
There was one area of the fascia that was chewed out by squirrels, so we installed a one-way device over it, temporarily enclosed the area with hardware cloth, and set up several baited devices nearby. The one-way will allow the squirrels to safely leave the attic but prevent them from getting back in. A short while later, we successfully retrieved all the squirrels and relocated them to a new, humane environment.
To prevent any future infestations from squirrels, or any other nuisance wildlife, from the building we installed Pest-Blok over the builders gap. Pest-Blok doesn't restrict airflow, undergoes a silicone-protected polyester coating process that makes it last longer, and guards the home against squirrels, pests, birds, and all other nuisance wildlife.
