Senior Community Disrupted by Bald-Faced Hornets in Pine Beach, NJ
Recently, we were sent out to an adult community in Pine Beach, NJ to eliminate an active bald-faced hornets nest in the garden area. Bald-faced hornets are social stinging insects that are a close relative to yellow jackets. The surface of their upper midsection almost looks triangular from the side, and they have white markings on their face. They're EXTREMELY aggressive and territorial. They won't hesitate to sting anything or anyone that invades their space.
After equipping our protective bee suit, we found the nest hanging in one of trees. We liberally treated the nest with a knockdown liquid product and a knockdown aerosol application. Both treatments will exterminate the bald-faced hornets quickly. A short while after, we removed the nest, and the branch it was attached to, and disposed of them both properly.
Small Opening Under the Soffit Return Leads to a Raccoon Problem in Lincroft, NJ
After spotting a raccoon roaming around his roof one evening, this client in Lincroft, NJ called Little Rascals for help. As we inspected the roof, we noticed an area of the soffit return that seemed to be damaged, so we took a closer look. Upon closer inspection, we determined that the area wasn't damaged but left unfinished and exposed. We also found raccoon paw prints and hair around the area. We informed the owner who had no idea that the area was left unfinished!
First, we installed a one-way over the opening and temporarily enclosed it with hardware cloth. We also placed several baited devices nearby. The one-way device is designed to allow the raccoons to safely leave the area but prevent them from getting back in. A short while later we successfully retrieved the raccoons and safely relocated them to a new, humane environment.
We then fashioned a piece of sturdy, metal flashing and installed over the access point, to prevent any future wildlife intrusions.
Keeping the Pigeons Away from the Solar Panels in Lincroft, NJ
A homeowner in Lincroft, NJ, was having an issue with pigeons roosting underneath her solar panels. They were using the solar panels as natural cover and protection from the elements as well as defecating all over the homeowners roof. Pigeon droppings are not only hazardous to your health, but they also eat away almost any substrate, particularly tar-based roofing material. A constant accumulation of pigeon droppings can cut the life expectancy of a roof in half.
First, we carefully removed all the nesting debris underneath the solar panels and then disinfected the area. Next, in order to prevent the pigeons (as well as all nuisance wildlife) from nesting underneath the solar panels, we installed our solar panel exclusion kit around the entire perimeter of the solar panels. This kit creates a physical barrier to keep birds from accessing and nesting in the area beneath the solar arrays, protecting the roof and equipment from damage. With nowhere to nest, the pigeons will no longer be attracted to the home and the solar panels will be protected from further intrusions from all types of birds and nuisance wildlife.
Crawl Space Needs New Insulation in Middletown, NJ
A new customer in Middletown, NJ, called our Crawl Space Division after his crawl space got flooded after a big rainstorm. As we examined the crawl space, we noticed that every single piece of insulation was contaminated and full of moisture. Additionally, the humidity levels in the crawl space were extremely high! Although there was none present, if left alone in it's current state, mold will develop throughout crawl space.
First, we removed all the contaminated insulation from the crawl space and disposed of it. Next, we wiped down all the joists and installed ComfortTherm® insulation. ComfortTherm® insulation provides excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates. Lastly, to control the humidity levels, we installed a Sani-Dry Sedona commercial-grade dehumidifier. The Sedona directs the extracted water pulled out of the air directly into the sump pump and will control the humidity levels in the crawl space.
Massive Yellow Jackets Nest Removed from the Wall in Middletown, NJ
We were recently sent out to a home in Middletown, NJ, to treat for yellow jackets. Apparently, a swarm of yellow jackets was discovered as the homeowner was renovating the living room. Once we arrived, we equipped our protective bee suit, and began inspecting the living room. That's when we noticed the humongous yellow jackets inside the wall! Judging by its size, it's been there for quite some time!
For treatment, we injected a knockdown aerosol application into the nest, waited a few moments, and then injected a knockdown liquid application. Both of these treatments will quickly exterminate the yellow jackets. After a short period of time, we removed the large nest and properly disposed of it. Now the owner can safely continue with his renovations.
