Patching Up the Damage from Woodpeckers in Woodbridge, NJ

This homeowner in Woodbridge, NJ, had a little problem. A woodpecker was confusing the side of his home as a giant tree and was causing some considerable damage to it! So to resolve this, we installed several Intimidator bird flashers around the home. The Intimidator reflects the suns rays as the wind spins it around and gives off Ultra Violet "flashes" (ultra violet is a color that birds can see but humans can not). The woodpeckers will relate the UV flashes as a danger and stay away. This is a humane and effective visual deterrent to prevent the woodpeckers from causing any further damage to the home.

Once that was completed, we stuffed each one of the openings made by the woodpecker with stainless steel mesh, sealed them with waterproof adhesive, and installed metal flashing over the holes. We had offered to paint over the metal flashing so that it blends in better with the home, but the owner was planning on repainting his property anyway and wanted to do that on his own.

The Wasps Hanging on the Fascia in Morganville, NJ

As this customer in Morganville, NJ, was leaving for work one day, he gazed up at his home and spotted a large wasps nest on the fascia! Since he was a Home Protection Plan customer, he called Cowleys for help and we were sent out.

Since the wasp nest was high up, we grabbed our extendable pole, attached a knockdown aerosol application to it, and then liberally treated the nest. This treatment rapidly exterminates the wasps. A short while later, we removed the nest, disposed of it, and then applied a liquid residual application to this area. This product will eliminate any wasps that return to the area as well as prevent them from building another nest.

Flying Squirrels Infest Home in Morganville, NJ

After spotting a flying squirrel entering his attic, this homeowner in Morganville, NJ immediately called Little Rascals for help and we were sent out. As we inspected the property, we discovered that the flying squirrels were able to gain access into the home by squeezing through the builders gap. A builder's gap is a gap between the fascia board and roof decking and it's caused when roof decking is stopped too short and isn't flush with the fascia. It's meant to help with airflow to the attic, but nuisance wildlife and pests view this as an open invitation into your property!

To safely retrieve the flying squirrels, we installed a positive set, temporarily enclosed the entire area off with hardware cloth, and set up several baited devices nearby. A positive set is comprised of a nose cone that is attached to a two-gaited, heavy-duty device and the nose cone will safely guide the flying squirrels into the device. It's called a positive set, because we are positive that the squirrels will enter the device.

A short while later, we retrieved the flying squirrels and relocated them to a new, humane and safe environment. We then removed our retrieval devices, disinfected the area, and installed trim coil over the entire length of the builder's gap to prevent any future infestations from squirrels or any other nuisance wildlife.

Repairing the Damage Done by Squirrels in Marlboro, NJ

Now that we have removed all the squirrels from this home in Marlboro, NJ and relocated them to a new, humane location, we're back at the property to repair the damage they done. The squirrels had ripped apart the shingles near the gutter to gain access to the attic. After disinfecting the area, we began to repair the damages. First, we cut a piece of sturdy metal flashing and installed it over the opening. Next, we applied roof grit to the flashing to blend it in with the color of the roof. Afterward, we applied a premium adhesive to the area and spread it across the flashing in order to hold the roof grits in place. Now the damages are repaired and the home is free of squirrels!

Unorganized Attic Gets New Blown-In Cellulose Insulation in Marlboro, NJ

After seeing our ad on our Facebook page, this homeowner in Marlboro, NJ, wanted our Attic Systems team to come out and add new blown-in insulation to his attic. Currently, the homeowner was utilizing the attic as extra storage, so it was filled with old carpets, wood, and broken chairs. With the owner's permission, we carefully disposed of all the items he and his wife no longer wanted. We also removed all the old insulation. Afterward, we installed Tight Shell Can Light Covers over the recessed lights in the attic. These are made of a fire-resistant material specifically designed to stop unwanted air leakage through the recessed lights. Afterward, we added over 10 inches of TruSoft blown-in cellulose insulation.

TruSoft blown-in cellulose insulation maximizes home comfort, has the highest Class-1 fire safety rating, and is resistant to mold and pests. After adding TruSoft, we installed several SilverGlo™ borders. This will prevent the insulation from overflowing onto the attic floor and make the attic look more organized.
