We arrived and immediately found the bat guano. What you see here is not dirt, that's bat guano in the bell area!
A Century to Build Up
The church was built over 116 years ago and the bats moved right in afterwards. So here is over a 100 years of bat guano build up. Bat guano looks very similar to mouse droppings, for an idea of scale and how much was actually there.
Better Suit Up for This One
Needless to say, we needed to equip our personal protective equipment before we begin sanitizing the building.
Problems with Bat Guano
Bats become infected with histoplasmosis, and their feces contain the histoplasma capsulatum fungus. The fungus then grows in the area where the droppings land.
Cleaned Up
After sanitizing the bell area, we turned our attention to the attic.
Wow
In some places, the bat guano was over 4 to 5 inches deep!
In Total
When all was said and done, we removed at least 500 lbs of bat guano!
