Wildlife Removal Photo Album: Rambunctious Raccoon in Wall Township, NJ

One of our clients in Wall Township, NJ contacted our office recently complaining of odd, "critter-like" noises in her attic. We had a suspicion that is was a raccoon, since they are primarily nocturnal and nests in a homeowners' attic. Even though we suspect it's a raccoon, we went out and conducted a thorough inspection.

Meeting Face to Face

As we began inspecting the attic we actually spotted the raccoon all the way in the corner! We quickly snapped a picture to show the homeowner and VERY slowly left.

Found the Access Point

We couldn't find the access point from the inside of the attic, we so inspected the rooftop. After a thorough inspection, we found one opening in the middle of the roof where there is a rubber membrane when two different pitch roofs come together.

Raccoons Are Predictable

Raccoons may be intelligent creatures, but they are also lazy and predictable. Once they find a path of least resistance, they'll use that same path over and over again.

Time for the One-Way

We temporarily sealed up the access point with hardware cloth and set up a one-way device. This device allows the raccoon to exit the attic area safely, but prevent it from getting back in.

Trapping Along Their Path

We also set up several baited traps along the raccoon path.

Gone Within 24 Hours

Within 24 hours, we returned and discovered that the raccoon left the attic. We thoroughly inspected the attic to make sure there weren't anymore raccoons harboring, to which we found none. We then sanitized the attic, removed the one-way, and properly sealed up the access point.
