A resident in Rumson, NJ contacted Cowleys after seeing a number of bats fly out of his attic one night.
Exposing Roof's Weakness
Beginning my inspection, I discovered that the bats exposed this roofs weak spots by entering the attic through the ends of the ridge vent. I found bat droppings inside the attic area, but no bats.
The Ridge Vent?
The ridge vent is the very peak shingles that usually has a venting material such as cobra venting or a variety of padded vent shingles, but sometimes they only cover the sides and the ends are forgotten about.
More Wildlife Can Enter
As you can see, bats are quick to expose these areas. If the issue isn't addressed quickly and properly, other animals will come along, enter the attic, and cause additional property damage to the home.
The Solution is...
After thoroughly sanitizing the attic, I installed a product called ridge guard. Ridge Guard secures and reinforces the ridge vent shingles so no bats or animals can enter in through this area again.
