Pests We Treat - Yellow Jackets in Dead Branch in Brielle, NJ
I was sent to a residence in Brielle, NJ to treat a yellow jacket infestation. Of all the stinging insects, most would agree that yellow jackets are among the most aggressive and territorial of the bunch. These guys will not hesitate to sting if they feel that their nest is being threatened, and they will sting often and repeatedly. Also, unlike other insects that build visible above-ground nests, yellow jackets will build their nests hidden in cavities, gaps, and cracks, so homeowners can inadvertently “trespass” into their area triggering a potentially dangerous attack.
With this particular infestation. yellow jackets were flying in and out of a dead tree limb. To build their nest, queens are attracted to hollow trees, under bark, and tree stumps as well as man-made structures such as under outdoor siding.
I treated the tree knot where the yellow jackets were entering and exiting with an effective dust that coats the wasps’ exoskeleton and immediately starts to eliminate the colony. This dust not only kills the wasps that are in the nest during the treatment. As the sun sets, the foraging yellow jackets that are returning to the nest are in for an unpleasant surprise. Their bodies will be coated with the dust as well and they will die soon after making contact with the treatment. It won’t take long for the colony to become completely dormant.
