Pests We Treat - Acrobat Ants Swarming On Home in Highlands, NJ
I was sent to a home in beautiful beachfront town of Highlands, NJ to take care of a severe infestation of acrobat ants. These ants had taken over every single room in this home. These ants have this somewhat unusual name because of their somewhat unusual behavior when disturbed: They will bend their abdomen over their body!
Outdoors, these ants nest in wet or moist organic materials such as stumps, rotting logs, and old woodpiles, often building their nests in cavities carved out by termites or carpenter ants. They tend to infest homes and other structures when there are moist building materials. Foam sheathing behind siding and around skylights is especially popular with these ants. These ants don’t cause structural damage as do carpenter ants. However, they are aggressive and territorial. Acrobat ants have a stinger, and they’re not afraid to use it. They bite when threatened. If that weren’t enough, they also emit a foul odor.
I was able to find their pheromone trail to their nest and treated that area with a product that will be carried back to the colony by the foraging ants. I also spot treated the home’s interior. I’m confident that, with the trail found and treated, the queen and the rest of the colony will soon be eliminated and this there will not be not be any further acrobat ant issues in this home.
