Pests We Treat - Ant Removal in Eatontown, NJ Kitchen
An Eatontown, NJ homeowner, after noticing one too many ants visiting her kitchen over the past few days, contacted Cowleys so that we could resolve the problem before things got really out of hand. When I arrived, the homeowner told me that the ants were most prevalent around the kitchen’s sliding glass door that led out to the adjoining backyard deck. After inspecting the kitchen interior, I checked to see what was happening outside. Although it was clear that the ants were entering the kitchen through the sliding glass door, I wanted to determine the source of the problem. So, I carefully examined in and around the outdoor deck. It did not take long to find the source of the infestation. Hidden underneath the deck was a stack of damp wooden beams, which were no doubt left-over building materials from the deck construction that should have been carted away. Leaving wood on the ground, especially in a dark moisture-filled area is asking for trouble. I slowly pulled out the beams. They were coated from top to bottom with crawling ants. There were also eggs planted all over the wood, so even more ants were ready to join in. The homeowner did not even realize that there was discarded wood underneath the deck. I promptly removed the slowly rotting ant-harborage beams away from the property, setting them to the curb for debris removal.
After removing the beams, I wanted make sure that the home was protected from any further infestations. I distributed Talstar EZ Granular application around the grassy areas of the home for perimeter control that protects against ants and a big list of other crawly pests. I really like using this granular application. It is heavy and virtually dust-free, so it won’t drift off target or wash away with rainfall or when its time to start watering the lawn. This application can penetrate mulch, has no odor, does not require watering, and has low application rates, all of which means safer lawns. Most important for ant control is that it is a residual, meaning that it continues to remains effective for months after it is applied. For long-lasting, broad spectrum perimeter control, this granular formulation can’t be beat.
The homeowner was pleased that I quickly identified the source of the ant infestation and quickly took care of it. Any lingering ants that were not kicked to the curb by removing the beams will soon be gone, and after a few days, this homeowner will no longer have to deal with any more unwelcome guests in her kitchen.
