Pests We Treat - Effectiveness of Bait Stations
Cowleys Pest Services handles the pest control needs of many condominiums and other residential development communities throughout New Jersey including this one located in Hamilton Township, NJ. Here, as with all of the developments that we service, we are responsible for resolving any and all types of pest and wildlife infestations with a focus on preventative measures. One of our most important responsibilities is protecting homeowners’ residences and the community’s clubhouse and other facilities from rodents. There are few things more disturbing than observing a disease-transmitting tick-carrying rodent scurrying across your floor. We work hard to stop them from infiltrating these structures in the first place by strategically installing tamper-resistant bait stations around the exterior perimeters.
Especially in residential communities, bait stations must be tamper-resistant. Rodenticides have the same effect when eaten by any mammal, and we take the highest precautions to ensure that people and most non-target animals do not come into contact with these baits that use enticing flavorings like peanut butter to attract the target rodents. Tamper-resistant bait stations, which protect and contain the rodenticide bait, must be secured in place to either the ground, a fence, pipe, or patio block; otherwise, they are not truly tamper-resistant.
Pest Management Professionals should always use tamper-resistant bait stations for their baiting efforts. These stations:
1. Reduce the likelihood of people, pets, and non-target wildlife from coming into contact with potentially hazardous rodent-incident bait.
2. Keep bait protected from dirt, dust, and moisture so it stays attractive to rodents, especially in locations where bait may be degraded by harsh weather elements like rain or snow.
3. Encourage rodents to feed inside dark, protected harborage that they naturally seek out.
5. Secure the bait, reducing the chance of accidental spillage.
6. Allow the Pest Management Professional to monitor areas of highest rodent activity based on bait consumption, and make adjustments as necessary to maximize the effectiveness of the stations.
While servicing these bait boxes, I make sure that each station is in compliance with EPA regulations. Each station is solidly secured to the ground with a duckbill anchor so that these babies aren’t going anywhere! The outside of the station has the proper product label, our Cowleys company logo, and our contact information. Inside the station, everything is shipshape. I make sure that the bait is secured on the inside rods, the inspection card is punched, and any debris is removed. By the time I’m done, these stations are irresistible to the unsuspecting rodents.
