While treating this property in Princeton, NJ, we spotted the dreaded invasive species — the Spotted Lanternfly
Spotted This Little Guy
As I was treating the home, I came across the invasive Spotted Lanternfly.
What Do They Look Like
They are approximately 1" long and 1/2" wide at rest. The forewing is grey with black spots and the wings tips are reticulated black blocks outlined in grey. The hind wings have contrasting patches of red and black with a white band.
A Threat to the Agriculture Industry
Spotted lanternflies are a threat to agriculture in the Northeast as this pest feeds on the sap within many trees and plants. Initially reported in Pennsylvania in 2014, it has made its way to several states, including New Jersey!
Destroy on Site
After a thorough inspection, this was the only Spotted Lanternfly I found on the property, so I exterminated it and continued servicing the property.
