Pests We Treat Photo Album: Odorous House Ants Invade Commercial Kitchen in Rumson, NJ
While performing a routine service at one of our Commercial Protection Plan accounts in Rumson, NJ, I discovered a trail of odorous house ants.
One Long Odorous House Ant Trail
As I was inspecting, I noticed a trail of odorous house ants crawling around the water faucet located by the dishwasher. I followed their trail all the way to an outside wall along the side of the building, almost 50 yards away!
Why the Odd Name?
Odorous house ants are about 2.4-3.25 millimeters in size, live in large colonies with multiple queens, and emit a rotten, coconut smell when crushed.
For Treatment
I applied a residual aerosol around the faucet area where the ants were emerging. I also treated all the crack and crevice areas throughout the kitchen and then treated the entire exterior perimeter of the building with a liquid non-repellant residual.
They Share it and are Eliminated
Once the odorous house ants come in contact with either of these treatments, they'll bring back to their nest and share it with the other ants in colony, including the queen. Soon, the entire colony is eliminated.
