Pests We Treat Photo Album: Odorous House Ants Hiding in Bradley Beach, NJ
A new customer in Bradley Beach, NJ mentioned that she was seeing ants in her kitchen and living room, but had no idea where they were coming from.
Hiding in the Wall
The homeowner was seeing ants all over her kitchen and in other rooms, but when I began inspecting, there wasn't a single ant to be found. I had a feeling that the ants were hiding so, after eventually finding a single ant near a window in the living room, I decided to do my own technique to force them out. I started pounding my hand in the areas of concern and bingo! Odorous house ants started emerging.
What Are Odorous House Ants
I'm sure you're thinking, why the funny name? They're called odorous house ants because, when they're crushed or startled, they emit a rotten, coconut smell. They are about 1/16 to 1/8 an inch in size, are either brown or black in color, and are attracted to moisture, sugary foods and fruits.
Flushed Out the Rest
Now that I woke them up, it's time to get rid of them. I used a flushing agent that'll flush the ants out of hiding as well as eliminate them almost immediately on contact.
Treated the Other Rooms
Next, I treated the cracks, crevices, and baseboards in the living room and the neighboring rooms with a liquid non-repellant. The odorous house ants will come in contact with product, bring it back to their nest, share it among one another, and, in a short amount of time, be eliminated.
