Pests We Treat Photo Album: Bed bugs infest Long Branch apartments

I regularly inspect for possible bed bug activity for one of our commercial clients in Long Branch. In one of the units where bed bugs were suspected, I found bedbug stains on the mattress and box-spring. Since bed bugs live exclusively on blood, when bed bugs are crushed, they leave rusty or reddish stains. Also bed bug excrement appears as tiny spots that are rust-colored or black, about the size of a dot from a marker. Since the droppings consist of digested blood, they are no longer red once they dry. I did not find any eggs or live bed bugs,nymphs or adults. But,from my experience, that did not mean that there wasn’t an active infestations. Bed bugs can just as easily be hiding nearby.

Yuck, they are everywhere. I performed a thorough crack and crevice treatment to all of the potential harborage areas. I also suggested to the resident to "bake" the curtains in the facility's dryer on the hottest setting. Bed bugs can't take heat - 125 degrees Fahrenheit will kill bed bugs and their eggs.

This was a heavy infestation, and I was glad I was there to treat it. Unfortunately for these bed bugs, the game was over and their infestation was about to come to an abrupt end.

With this infestation, and I've been doing this for a long time, I was surprised at the volume of bed bugs hiding in the folds of the curtains and the window frame. I grabbed my HEPA-vac and sucked up all the of the eggs and bed bugs on the curtains and window frame.
