Pests We Treat Photo Album: Termite swarming removed and exterminated in Ocean Grove
I was called out to a customer’s home in Whiting for a “UFI” — an Unidentified Flying Insect. When I arrived at the home, I quickly identified the pests as a termite swarmers and not an ant swarmers. It’s important to know the difference. Termites are wood-destroying insects that can cause thousands of dollars in property damage. While some ants, like carpenter ants, can bore holes in wood, they don’t come close the level of structural damage that can be caused by a termite infestation. The bad news for this homeowner was that he had termites, but the good news is that because he caught the infestation early and is having it treated, costly termite damage will be avoided.
Winged ant or termite?
What's the difference between these two types of swarmers? At first glance, termite swarmers look similar to ant swarmers. Upon closer inspection, however, there are a few key differences. First, termite swarmers have two segments to their body where ants have three. The termite swarmer has a straight wide body whereas the ant has a thin "pinched" waist. Also, the wings on a termite swarmer are longer in comparison to an ant swarmer, and a termites' wings are of equal length while ants have unequal length wings. Finally, termite swarmers have straight antennae wile the antennae of flying ants are bent.
Termite exit holes found in Ocean Grove, NJ
Termite swarmers, also known as winged reproductives, produce the offspring in the colony and swarm at certain times of the year. As shown in this photo, termite swarmers were emerging out of a hole in the sheetrock, which is what termite specialists call an exit hole.
Drilling holes for access to termites in Ocean Grove
The first order of treatment is to drill small holes into the wall to give us access to the wall voids.
How we treat termites in Ocean Grove, New Jersey
We use these holes to inject Termidor foam into the voids that will reach the termites. When termites come in contact with this non-repellent undetectable foam, they will transport it back their underground colony, transferring it to the rest of the termites. Soon thereafter, the entire colony dies.
