Carpenter Bees Coming from the Fence in Lavallette, NJ
Challenge
A new homeowner in Lavallette, NJ was sitting outside in his backyard, enjoying the beautiful weather when he noticed a big fat bee hovering around his back deck. Since he is highly allergic to bee stings, he called Cowleys for help and we were sent out. As we took a closer look at these fat bees, we identified them as carpenter bees and also discovered that they weren't coming from the porch, but the wooden fence. In fact, they were boring (drilling) into the fence in several locations, severely damaging it.
Carpenter bees are wood boring insects that drill almost perfect circular 1/2 holes into wooden structures. They do this to create their galleries. The carpenter bees that you mainly see outside their nest are the males. They may dive bomb at you and look scary, but they're harmless because they don't have a stinger. The females do have a stinger though, but they primarily reside in their nest.
Solution
For treatment, we injected a residual dusting application into each one of the drill holes. This treatment will eliminate the carpenter bees as well as leave behind a residual that will exterminate any returning and newly hatched carpenter bees in the galleries.
