An Old Pond Attracts Mosquitoes in East Brunswick, NJ
Challenge
An early spring in New Jersey means an early season for mosquitoes, as this customer in East Brunswick, NJ found out! As we were inspecting the backyard we noticed a particular area that didn't have as much brush around it. We took a closer look and discovered an old pond that was filled with mosquito larvae!
Mosquitoes can lay eggs in as little as 1/4 inch of water and they can lay hundreds of eggs at a time. Even a single water bottle cap can be enough! We informed the owner and mentioned that the pond is contributing to the mosquito infestation in his yard and that it needs to be removed and/or filled in ASAP. Additionally, noticed that the grass and the brush in the backyard was extremely high. We also told the owner that this can lead to a tick and rodent issue if not rectified ASAP. The owner agreed and will contact a professional landscaper after we treat the home.
Solution
First, we treated the backyard, around the entire exterior of the home, and the high foliage areas with a micro-encapsulating application. This application is effective against both mosquitoes and ticks. This product will stick to the bottom of the leaves, and once a mosquito or a tick comes in contact with the solution, they will be eliminated. After spraying, we tossed briquets containing a larvicide into the old pond to prevent the mosquito eggs from ever becoming an adult mosquito.
