Big Bald-Faced Hornets Nest on the Soffit in South Plainfield, NJ
Challenge
We were sent out to a home in South Plainfield, NJ, to exterminate a hornets nest that was located on the soffit. When we arrived, we identified these stinging insects as bald-faced hornets and saw that their nest was HUGE! Bald-faced hornets are social stinging insects that are a close relative to yellow jackets. The surface of their upper midsection almost looks triangular from the side, and they have white markings on their face. They build paper nests at least three or more feet off of the ground, usually in trees, shrubs, overhangs, houses, or other structures.
One very important fact that you must know about bald-faced hornets is that they are EXTREMELY aggressive and will not hesitate to sting anything that invades their space.
Solution
We grabbed our extendable pole, attached a knockdown dusting application to it, and injected it into the nest. This treatment will exterminate the bald-faced hornets almost immediately. Afterward, we removed the nest, disposed of it properly, and applied a liquid residual application to the soffit. This will exterminate any bald-faced hornets that return to the area as well as prevent them from building another nest.
