Hornets Are Too Close to Children in Middletown, NJ
Challenge
We were sent out on a service call to a condo association in Middletown, NJ to handle a hornet issue. Apparently, there was a large hornets nest in one of the tenants front yard that was dangerously close to her children's playhouse. After equipping our protective bee equipment, we inspected the property and came face-to-face with a HUGE bald-faced hornets nest in a tree! The nest was larger than a basketball and there was a large number of these stinging insects hovering around the nest and even landing on the playhouse!
Bald-faced hornets are one of the most aggressive stinging insects out there that received their name from their black color and white markings on their face. What makes them especially dangerous is that they can sting their unsuspecting victim over and over again and inject a venom that makes the sting hurt and itch for over 24 hours.
Solution
We grabbed our extendable pole, attached a knockdown aerosol application to it, and then injected it into the opening of the nest. We then waited several moments and then treated the nest with a knockdown dusting application. Both of these treatments will rapidly exterminate the bald-faced hornets. Once a majority of the population was eliminated we removed the nest, and the branch it was attached to, and disposed of them properly.
