Fruit Flies & Mice Infest Old Restaurant in Dayton, NJ
Challenge
A new and excited business owner purchased an old restaurant in Dayton, NJ, and was planning to completely renovate it. The only problem was, the building had a bad mouse and fruit fly infestation. When we arrived and started inspecting, we noticed that almost every single floor drain was filled with discarded produce, fruit, and fruit flies. Fruit flies are attracted to rotting produce, which will ferment and produce alcohol which they will feed on.
As we continued inspecting the building we noticed a buildup of mice feces near several utility pipes. Turns out, there were gaps around the pipes on both the inside and outside of the building that the mice were utilizing to infest the restaurant.
Solution
For treatment, we treated the high infestation areas with a fly bait to control the adult fruit flies. Next, we applied a liquid application in all the floor drains and used a heavy-duty brush to thoroughly scrub them out. This product removes the bad bacteria in the drains, which eliminates the fruit fly's breeding habitat. Lastly, we applied a bio-foam solution to all the floor drains. This application removes the organic build-up, odors, and scum in the drains.
Once we finished, we carefully cleaned up all the mouse droppings and stuffed every single gap around the utility pipes (on the inside and outside of the building) with stainless steel mesh, and then sealed them with a waterproof premium adhesive. Mice hate the taste of stainless steel mesh and they are unable to chew through that and the adhesive. Next, we placed several interior and exterior rodent bait stations throughout the building. Lastly, we scheduled several follow-up inspections to monitor the mice and fruit fly activity and apply any additional treatments if needed.
