Paper Wasps Block Homeowner's Escape in Jersey City, NJ
Challenge
A property manager of a condo association in Jersey City, NJ called our office after one of her tenants reported a wasps nest by her front door. Once I arrived, I equipped my bee suit, began inspecting the property, and came across several active paper wasp nests.
Paper wasps are stinging insects that usually have brown bodies with yellow or reddish markings and received their name from the paper-like material out of which they make their nest. They range in size from five-eighths to three-quarters of an inch long and are often mistaken for yellowjackets but have a slimmer waist and a triangular side view. Paper wasps aren't aggressive, however, if their nest is disturbed or threatened, they WILL sting and their stings are extremely painful.
Solution
I treated each nest with an aerosol knockdown application, which exterminates the paper wasps almost immediately. After several minutes, I removed each nest and properly disposed of them. Lastly, I treated the area with a residual product that'll prevent any future stinging insects from infesting the area.
