Mud Daubers Create Work of Art in Freehold, NJ
Challenge
Recently, I was sent on a service call for a homeowner in Freehold, NJ who noticed some organ-pipe looking structure on the underside of their deck. After a thorough inspection, I determined that this was a mud dauber nest.
Mud daubers are non-social wasps that build their nest out of mud. They construct mud like chambers, lay eggs inside, and repeat the process. They are about ½ to 1 inch long, have clear or dark wings, and are usually black in color. Although they appear threatening, mud daubers are non-aggressive wasps. What makes mud daubers a nuisance is that their old nests are often taken over by other more dangerous wasp species.
Solution
First, I used my scraper to remove the nest. Next, I applied a liquid application along the area to prevent any rebuilding as well as future pest infestations. Now the homeowner can enjoy a pest-free home once again thanks to Cowleys!
