Exterminators in Holmdel, NJ
Challenge
The property manager for one of Cowleys commercial accounts in Holmdel, NJ contacted us after several residents were getting stung by hornets. Once I arrived and I immediately spotted the nest in a tree by the main walkway to the building. As I took a closer look, a group of extremely hostile bald-faced hornets emerged and began attacking me! Fortunately, I was wearing my bee suit, but I still needed to go to a safe area and wait until the hornets retreat back to their nest.
Bald-faced hornet stings carry venom that makes the stings hurt, itch and swell for about 24 hours. They received their name because of their predominately white face and black markings. Bald-faced hornets are social insects, although not true hornets, and are most active during the day. Bald-faced hornets are aggressive and will attack anyone or anything that invades their space, unlike other stinging insects that may only rarely sting when they feel extremely threatened.
Solution
After waiting until all the hornets have retreated back into their nest, I quickly applied an aerosol application directly into the nest. This treatment neutralizes the hornets almost immediately. After a few minutes I then removed the nest, properly disposed of it, removed the branch the nest was attached to and applied a residual application on the area. There are always returning hornets that come back to try to find their nest once it is removed, but the residual application will prevent them from rebuilding any new nests.
