Odorous House Ants Infest Home in Allenwood, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Allenwood, NJ was having an issue with ants crawling all over her living room. Upon arrival, we began our inspection in the living room and discovered a trail of odorous house ants along the baseboard.
Odorous house ants tend to invade homes after heavy rainfall. These ants are tiny, but extremely fast and get their name from the rotten coconut smell they emit when crushed or when alarmed. What makes these pests such a challenge to treat is that they move their nests as often as every three weeks.
We continued our inspection to the exterior of the home and found out that the ants were trailing along the vegetation and up under the siding of the house, which is how they were getting in. Turns out the heavy vegetation had an abundance of moisture buildup in it, which was providing the perfect habitat for the odorous house ants to nest.
Solution
For treatment, we applied a liquid residual along the entire exterior of the home, the cracks, crevices, and baseboards in the living room, and the surrounding rooms. I also applied a granular bait along the vegetation on the exterior of the home. This application is a non-repellant, so the ants will unknowingly come in contact with it. The odorous house ants then transfer both the application and the granular bait with the other ants in the colony, including the queen. Within a few short weeks, the entire colony is eliminated and the home will be free of these stinky ants.
