Preventative Termite Treatment in Neptune, NJ
Challenge
Recently, I went on a service call for a homeowner in Neptune, NJ. The homeowner had recently moved into his new home and wanted a preventative termite treatment to protect the house from any future termite infestation. Since termites cause over 5 billion dollars yearly in property damages, this was a wise investment for the homeowner.
First, even though the home had no record of termites, I performed a thorough inspection of the entire property. Termites are occasionally mistaken for ants. It takes practice to see the difference, but their key identifying traits of termites are their straight, beaded antennae, uniform waists, and wings of equal size. Ants, on the other hand, have elbowed antennae, constricted waists, and forewings that are longer than the hind wings. While termite workers only measure approximately 1 cm to a few millimeters in length, they are able to cause significant damage because of their sheer numbers. Fortunately, I found no signs of termites. During my inspection, I noticed the home was on a concrete slab.
Solution
In order to effectively treat the home from future termite infestations, I had to drill through the concrete slab around the entire exterior of the property to treat the underlying soil where a termite subterranean nest is located. When drilling, it's imperative that I space the holes at least 15-18 inches apart. This ensures that the liquid application has room to spread out.
Once all the holes were drilled, I injected a liquid application under the slab. This application binds tightly to any treated area to create a protective treatment zone that the termites cannot detect. Once a termite comes in contact with this application, they carry it back to their colony and transfer it to other termites. In a short period of time, the entire termite colony is eliminated. Due to the homeowner's proactive approach, his property will be termite-free for many years to come.
