We were sent out to this home in South River, NJ, to inspect for in the crawl space. Although we didn't find any signs of mice or rats, we found evidence of another pest - termites! How did we know? We found active termite mud tubes in the crawl space. Mud tubes are pencil-width size tubes made by the worker termites. They use these tunnels to travel to and from their nest when foraging for food. These protective tubes allow the termites to stay moist underground. We informed the owners and they immediately signed up for a Home Protection Plan.
First, with the owners permission, we drilled into the wooden joists in the crawl space and injected a foaming termiticide application. Once that was done, we drilled around the entire exterior of the home and injected a liquid version of the termiticide. Both of these treatments bind to the treated areas and creates a protective zone that the termites can't detect. The termites will then come in contact with the termiticide as they go about their normal routines and transfer it throughout their colony. The treatment then spreads like a virus throughout their colony and, in a short amount of time, the termites are exterminated and the home is protected for years to come!
We were sent out to a property in South River, NJ to handle a mice problem inside the home. After finding mice droppings in the laundry room, we turned our attention to inspecting the exterior of the home. That's when we discovered how the mice were getting inside! There was an exhaust vent that had no cover over it!
We informed the owner and she mentioned that she will contact our Little Rascals Nuisance Wildlife division to come out and install a new exhaust vent cover, once the mice are gone. In the meantime, we set up a rodent bait station near the exhaust vent, in several other locations around the exterior of the home, and in the laundry room. We then scheduled a number of follow up visits to monitor the infestation, replenish the bait in the bait stations, and seal up any and all potential openings around the property.
This customer in South River, NJ had an infestation of rats in her crawl space. How were they getting into the crawl space? The crawl was missing a door and left wide open!
First, we installed several rodent bait station throughout the crawl space and in a number of areas around the exterior of the home. Afterward, we schedule a number of follow up inspections to monitor the rat activity and replenish the bait in the bait stations as needed. Once the rats have been removed from the property, our Crawl Space Division will come out and, at the owner's request, install an Everlast™ door over the crawl space entry point. An Everlast™ door is made from ½-in.-thick PVC plastic that will never warp, crack, shrink, require maintenance or painting and will prevent any unwanted pests and moisture from entering the crawl space.
One of our commercial clients, an apartment complex in South River, was having a problem with oriental cockroaches. These roaches, also called water bugs, have a preference for dark, damp, cool areas. You’ll often find them under sinks and washing machines, and crawling around damp basements. These are a larger than the German roach, our primary nemesis in the roach family, and are noticeably more sluggish than other roach species. Like all roaches, they carry diseases since they often travel through sewer pipes and live on filth.
A tenant had reported to the property manager that there was a bug problem near a washing machine in the building’s laundry room. When I inspected that area, I immediately noticed that a roach trap monitor I had previously set was chock full of black oriental roaches. I immediately saw the cause of the roach problem: A pipe adjacent to the washer was leaking, and water was pooling on floor. An oriental roach could not have asked for a better home!
I pointed out the leak to building maintenance, and asked that they try to fix the pipe as soon as possible. Otherwise, the roach problem would not be resolved. To help get rid of the current infestation, I spot treated around the washer and did a crack and crevice aerosol treatment where the roaches were exiting. I then replaced all of the roach monitors monitors in the laundry area to help me gauge the level of insect activity for my next visit.
