We've returned to this restaurant in Asbury Park, NJ to check up on the German cockroach activity. On our last visit, we placed several monitoring devices in the high activity areas of the business. When we checked on them we confirmed that there was still a hefty amount of German cockroaches infesting the restaurant.
After the owner and his staff removed all the items out of the kitchen and disposed of any contaminated items, we treated the kitchen, trash room, and sink room with a residual application that's combined with an EPA registered insect growth regulator. This treatment affects the cockroaches' reproductive system and prevents them from reaching adulthood. After that, we treated the main harborage areas with a knockdown aerosol product which is going to flush the cockroaches out of hiding and rapidly exterminate them.
Lastly, we replaced every single one of the monitoring devices and then scheduled some additional return inspections. We will continue to monitor the cockroach infestation and apply any additional treatments until the German cockroaches are no longer infesting the restaurant.
As we inspected the exterior of this commercial property in Asbury Park, NJ we discovered that several of the exhaust vents were exposed and clogged with nesting debris from starlings! We informed the property manager and began our retrieval process. A short while after setting up our retrieval devices we were able to safely remove all of the starlings from the property. All that's left was do make sure that they don't get back in!
First, we disinfected each exhaust vent with a solution that eliminates bird mites. Bird mites are parasites that feed on the blood of birds. When birds leave their nests, the mites are left behind without a suitable host for their next blood meal and make their way into a home. What's worse is that are tiny and semi-transparent, which means that they are extremely difficult to detect! After disinfecting the exhaust vents we installed a DryerWallVent® over each one.
The DryerWallVent® is made out of heavy-duty galvanized steel and its large opening and angled damper provide maximum airflow efficiency for safe venting. It's sturdy integrated magnets keep the damper closed when not in use which prevents birds as well as all nuisance wildlife from getting back in the area!
We're returning to this commercial property in Asbury Park, NJ to check up on the rodent activity in our rodent bait stations. When we came across one of the stations, we discovered that it was loaded with ants!
We applied a granular bait around the bait station and treated the entire exterior of the home with a liquid residual. Once the ants come in contact with either of these products, they’ll return to their nest and transfer the treatments throughout their colony. They'll do this by feeding each other, grooming each other, or eating their own dead. In no time at all, the ants will be exterminated.
This restaurant in Asbury Park, NJ was infested with fruit flies. The majority of the infestation was located behind the bar area. When we inspected the area, we found out why. The entire bar area was filthy! There was food, dirt, and grease underneath almost every single piece of kitchen equipment and the floor drains were overflowing with discarded liquids and other debris. Fruit flies are not just attracted to fermenting fruits and vegetables, but also the fermenting sugars in alcoholic beverages. Any area that has a build up of discarded fruits or sweetened liquids is an attractant for fruit flies.
The first thing we did was apply a liquid application in every single one of the floor drains and then scrubbed them out with our heavy-duty scrubbing brush. Once that was finished we applied a bio-foam solution that removes the organic build-up, odors, and scum in all the floor drains. Once this is removed, so will the fruit flies. Lastly, we treated the high infestation areas with a fly bait to control the adult fruit flies and installed several fruit fly traps. The attractant in the traps draws the fruit flies close and the bait inside the traps exterminates them within moments of contact. In a short amount of time, the fruit flies will be gone for good.
We were sent out to a home in Interlaken, NJ to handle a potential termite issue in the detached garage. As we inspected the garage, we didn't find any signs of termite activity, that is, until we moved the giant surf board on the back wall. When we did, we found termites and their mud tubes all over the wall. Termites use the mud tubes to travel to and from their nest when foraging for food. These protective tubes allow the termites to stay moist underground.
For treatment, we injected a foaming termiticide into the walls of the garage. Afterward, we then injected a liquid version of the termiticide around the entire exterior perimeter of the shed and, with the owner's permission, around the exterior of the home as well. The termiticide binds to the treated areas and create a protective zone that the termites can't detect. The termites will then come in contact with it as they go about their normal routine and transfer it throughout their colony. In a short amount of time, the termites will be exterminated, and the home is protected for years to come!
Recently, I was sent out to a call in Asbury Park, NJ after Cowleys was contacted by the homeowner because of mouse activity that was observed in the kitchen. Mice generally enter homes through gaps or cracks in the foundation, first entering the basement or crawl space. From there, they make their way through wall voids throughout the home, and, to no ones’s surprise, they often wind up foraging for food debris in the kitchen.
Mice are nocturnal and do their foraging in the dead of night. As such, we look for signs of mouse activity, especially the tell-tale mouse droppings they leave behind. Here, during my initial inspection, I did not find any droppings or entry points in any of the kitchen cabinets or under and around the dishwasher. When I inspected behind the refrigerator I found large holes that the mice were using to gain entry into the kitchen from the basement. I then went into the basement to find the holes and there were extensive droppings in the area.
I closed the holes up with hardware cloth to block kitchen entry and set up RTU (Ready-to-Use) baited mouse traps in the basement.
Once a home or unit in an apartment has a bed bug infestation, one of the biggest challenges is finding their harborage areas. When they are not feeding for their blood meal, bed bugs can be hiding anywhere. Recently, I was sent to a residential complex in Asbury Park, NJ to treat a bed bug infestation in one of the units. When bedbugs are in high-density locations, it is important to treat the infestation before the bugs have a chance to spread to other units.
With this infestation, I found bed bug activity and performed a treatment. After the initial treatment, the tenant informed me that she was still waking up with bedbug bites in the morning. The reality is that bed bugs are persistent, resilient bugs and treatments can be challenging. We always have follow-up visits until we know that the infestation has been completely resolved.
I was determined to find their harborage area that managed to escape my first treatment. I thoroughly checked the entire unit and even the tenant’s wheelchair since these parasites like to hide near the host that they are feeding on for their blood meal. Bed bugs bite when we are stationary when sleeping or resting. They don’t like moving targets! After a thorough inspection, I could not find a single bed bug anywhere. Finally, I asked the tenant, who is wheel-chair bound, to take off her sandals as a last resort since I could not think off any other location. I was not expecting to find any bugs, but by this point, I was stumped. To my surprise, bedbugs were hiding right under her feet — literally! Now that the bed bugs were found, I could resolve this infestation for good. The tenant was more than happy to throw out these sandals and get a new pair. I bagged up her sandals and removed them from the unit.
