Job Stories From Fort Monmouth, NJ
Garter Snake Found on Side of the Business in Fort Monmouth, NJ

We were sent out to a commercial property in Fort Monmouth, NJ after one of the workers spotted a garter snake on the side of the building as they were taking out the garbage. So we inspected the area and, sure enough, spotted the garter snake against the foundation of the property.

Garter snakes are the most common snake found in NJ, often making itself comfortable around homes. These snakes often hibernate under the siding of a home. They are the first snakes to emerge from hibernation and can be seen as early as mid-March. Its color varies from olive brown to black and typically has three long stripes extending from head to tail. Garter snakes are relatively harmless to humans. In fact, they are often kept as pets. Although some species do possess a mild neurotoxic venom, it's not dangerous to humans. We will relocate the garter snake to a new, humane location.

Black Widow Takes Over Bait Station in Fort Monmouth, NJ

We returned to a business in Fort Monmouth, NJ to check up on the mice activity and replenish the bait stations. As we were checking on one of the bait stations, we found a female black widow inside of it! Female black widows are shiny black, with a red-orange hourglass pattern on their abdomen. Black widows use a silk-like substance to weave tangled-looking webs, typically close to the ground in covered or dark places, such as near drain pipes or under logs (or in a bait station). The female black widow spider hangs upside down in the web to await her prey, exposing her bright markings as a warning to potential predators. Their venom is reported to be 15 times stronger than that of a rattlesnake! Fortunately, they only bite humans when they are disturbed.

We applied a knockdown liquid application directly to the black widow spider as well as performed a crack and crevice treatment around the entire exterior of the building with a residual application that is specifically labeled to eliminate spiders. After that was done, we continued replenishing the bait in all the rodent bait stations.
