You can see that the ground is moist. Dirt floor crawl spaces attract and absorb moisture. When the dirt dries, it causes humidity levels to rise in your home which can lead to mold and mildew.
Encapsulate it
After discussing various options with the homeowner, he decided to encapsulate his crawl space. Crawl space encapsulation eliminates moisture, provides better air quality, keeps unwanted pests out, and saves you a considerable amount of money on your utility bill.
The Vapor Barrier
After removing all the debris and leveling the ground, we laid down a drainage matting which allows water to work its way over to the sump pump. Next, we installed a vapor barrier which is a 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement.
Exquisite Protection
The vapor barrier is also treated with an antimicrobial finish that protects against mold and mildew growth. We then insulated the walls with SilverGlo, which provides a vapor barrier that holds back the moisture and humidity.
Now for the Humidity
Finally, we installed a commercial grade Sani-dry Sedona dehumidifier to properly control the humidity levels. The extracted water pulled out of the air will be directed directly into the sump pump.
