Crawl Space Encapsulation Photo Album: Crawl Space Encapsulation in Old Bridge, NJ
After a recent flood occurred in this homeowner's crawl space in Old Bridge, NJ, he decided that he wanted to prevent any future damage or mold and mildew and had his crawl space encapsulated.
In Disarray
As you can see, this crawl space was a mess. The sump pump was no longer working, the insulation was wet, and the humidity levels were incredibly high. Fortunately, after a thorough inspection, there was no mold present, but it was only a matter of time until it develops.
Remove, Level, Install
After removing all the debris and leveling the ground, we laid down a drainage matting which allows water to work its way over to the sump pump. Next, we installed a vapor barrier which is a 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. It's also treated with an antimicrobial finish that protects against mold and mildew growth.
Wrapping it Up
Next, we wrapped the walls and piers with wall liner and then dug a hole to install the new smart pump. We then filled the outside of the hole with stones which will allow water to filter down into the sump pump.
A Smart Crawl Space
Finally, to control the humidity levels we installed a Sani-Dry Sedona dehumidifier. These machines are a powerful energy-efficient dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run. The Sedona directs the extracted water pulled out of the air directly into the sump pump.
