Bald Faced Hornets in Deal, NJ
Here we are at a home in Deal, NJ. The customer contacted Cowleys after finding a hornets' nest on her porch. As soon as we began our inspection, we immediately found the nest and identified the stinging insects as bald-faced hornets. Bald-faced hornets are extremely protective of their nests and will aggressively attack and sting anything that they deem a threat. When they “zone in,” they will often attack in very large numbers. This means the insects may inject a large amount of venom, increasing the likelihood of painful swelling or a far more serious allergic reaction. Their nest is constructed of paper-like material made from chewed wood fibers mixed with saliva.
Fortunately, we caught this nest at its beginning stages. First, we sprayed the nest with a direct-contact product to eliminate the hornets in the nest. Then, we carefully removed the nest. Finally, to prevent the bald-faced hornets from rebuilding their nest, we applied a liquid residual along the soffit area. Once a bald-faced hornet comes in contact with the residual, they’ll consume and digest it and will be eliminated.
