Odorous House Ants Infest Home in Rumson, NJ
Recently, we went on a service call to a property in Rumson, NJ. The homeowner was in the process of renovating his home and noticed a large number of ants in his new addition. As we transition into spring, ants emerge from a deep slumber and forage for food. Once we arrived and began our inspection, we found a few ants trailing from a hole in the wall. As we got closer, we found a massive infestation of ants inside!
A closer inspection revealed that these were odorous house ants. They are called odorous house ants because they emit a rotten coconut smell when they are crushed. Odorous house ants prefer to feast on sweets, such as sugar and pastries.
For treatment, I applied a light liquid application on all the cracks, crevices and baseboards in the construction area, directly on the ant trail and the ant colony inside the hole, and along the exterior of the home. When ants come in contact with this application they transfer it from one to another, including to the queen. In a short amount of time, the ants are no more.
Once the ants are gone, the homeowner can continue the renovations in a pest-free environment.
