Photo Album: Voles Are Ruining Homeowners Landscape in West Long Branch, NJ
Vole Tunnels Across the Landscape
As we inspected the property, we found tons of vole tunnels throughout the landscape! Also called meadow mice or field mice, voles are rodents with small eyes and partially hidden ears. Their underfur is generally dense and covered with thicker, longer guard hairs. They are compact with stocky bodies, short legs, and tails and are about 4 - 8 ½ inches in length (depending on the species). Voles are active day and night, year-round, they do not hibernate and their diet consists of plants, especially grasses and seeds, as well as bark, crops, insects, and animal remains.
What Are Vole Tunnels?
Voles dig distinctive shallow snake-like tunnels that you'll see all over your lawn. They are about two inches wide and stay near the surface, so they can eat their favorite food, grass stems, and blades.
Crazy During Spring
Vole activity is especially manic in the early springtime.
To Eliminate Vole
We installed several landscaping baited devices over the main burrows. This will make the voles believe that they are protected from predators.
Looks Decorative
The landscaping bait stations give off the appearance as decorative rocks and blend in with the homeowners landscape.
Follow Up Inspections
Once we finished installing the bait stations, we scheduled several follow up visits with the homeowner to replenish the bait in the bait stations and to monitor the vole activity.
