Photo Album: Bag of Flour Infested with Grain Weevils
While performing a routine inspection for a senior community in Asbury Park, NJ, we found one unit infested with grain weevils.
Flour Full of Grain Weevils
As we were treating this unit, the occupant mentioned seeing a few insects in his pantry. So we investigated and found a torn flour bag that was loaded with grain weevils!
What Are Grain Weevils
The wheat weevil, also known as the grain weevil or granary weevil, is an insect that feeds on cereal grains, and is a common pest in many places. They have a long snout, reddish brown or black bodies, and wing covers despite their inability to fly. As larvae, granary weevils are legless, small white grubs that feed on the inside of kernels.
Throw it Away
At the owners request, we carefully disposed of all the contaminated products and cleaned out the pantry.
No More Grain Weevils
Lastly, we treated all the cracks and crevices throughout the pantry with a knockdown aerosol application. This treatment rapidly exterminates the grain weevils.
