Photo Album: Rooftop HVAC Systems Plagued by Pigeons in Piscataway, NJ
What was the Problem?
Pigeons were roosting inside both of the Rooftop HVAC systems.
Disgusting Mess
As you can see, the pigeons were leaving quite the mess! This is a health hazard to everyone inside the building and is a slip, trip, fall hazard to the workers!
How Did we Know it Was Pigeons
We found several of them nesting!
Didn't Work
The maintenance team attempted to exclude the bottom portion of the HVAC systems, but it didn't work out.
Install Bird Netting
To exclude the pigeons as well as all nuisance birds, we're installing bird netting over the top and bottom of both HVAC systems.
Steel Cables
In order make sure the bird netting is secured, we're using a stainless steel cable with net spikes...
Secure Them Into the Walls
... and are anchoring it into the walls.
Tighten the Cables
We're then going to lock the cables in place using copper ferrules and then install turnbuckles which tighten the cable. We also used hog rings which secures the cable and connects it to the bird netting.
Prevents them from Entering
This is 3/4 inch, heavy duty polyethylene bird netting is used to humanely block the nuisance birds from entering any unwanted areas.
Impenetrable Barrier
This creates an impenetrable barrier that denies all nuisance birds the access to this area and removes their landing areas.
For the Bottom Portion
When we installed bird netting to the bottom area of the HVAC systems, we made sure that the netting is weighted.
Easy Access
So that the maintenance team has easy access to the roof!
Pigeons Will Move On
The pigeons will fly around, realize they can't enter, and move on. Now nuisance birds will no longer roost in this area.
