Photo Album: Larder Beetles Found in Apartment in Jackson, NJ
While servicing this apartment unit in Jackson, NJ, we found an interesting pest in the living room - a larder beetle!
A Surprise in the Living Room
We noticed some pests in the corner of the living room. Upon closer examination, we identified them as larder beetles.
Larder Beetles
Also called moisture bugs, larder beetles are a species of beetle in the family Dermestidae, the skin beetles. They are found worldwide and are a common pest of households and storage facilities in much of the world. They are black in color with yellow band and dark spots.
How Did They Get In
When an infestation is found in a home, it most likely came from dry dog, cat, or bird food. They also feed on dead animal matter like cluster flies, boxelder bugs, or mice that might be in the walls of homes. Grease resulting from cooking also attracts larder beetles.
Treatment for Larder Beetles
First, we applied a knockdown aerosol application that will rapidly exterminate the beetles, and flush them out of hiding, to all the cracks and crevices in the living room. Afterward, we treated the baseboards, cracks, crevices in this area and the two adjacent rooms with a liquid residual. Once the beetles come in contact with this treatment, they will be exterminated.
