Photo Album: Fox Den Underneath Deck in Fair Haven, NJ
A fox had burrowed underneath this homeowner's deck and decided that this area was its' new home. This didn't bother the homeowner, until the fox began attacking her cats! Fortunately, our Wildlife Division is here to safely retrieve & exclude the fox.
First, We Dig
First, we dug approximately 10 inches down into the ground and then dug 10 inches out from the deck. Next, we installed our hardware cloth, folded it into an L-shape, secured it along the entire deck area, and then filled the hole back up. After that, we installed a lattice over the hardwarecloth.
Keep an Area Open
We left a small area open and installed a one-way device over it.
The One-Way
The one-way will allow the fox to safely leave the area, but prevent it from getting back in. We also placed several baited devices nearby.
Matter of Time
Once we safely retrieve the fox, we will relocate it to a new, humane location, fill in the burrow, and install another layer of hardware cloth & lattice to the area.
