Photo Album: New Homeowners Greeted by Rats in Jackson, NJ
Behind the Dishwasher
After searching the home and not finding any signs of a rat entry point, we decided to move the dishwasher and check behind there. As you can see, we hit the jackpot!
Droppings and a Big Hole
There was rat droppings all over the place and a large, chewed out hole!
Health Hazard
The accumulation of feces from rats can spread bacteria, contaminate food sources, and trigger allergic reactions in humans. Once the fecal matter becomes dry, it can be hazardous to those who breathe it in. Moreover, rodent droppings can spread diseases and viruses, such as Hantavirus, Salmonellosis, and Rat-Bite fever.
Clean Them Up
The first thing we did we carefully clean up all the rat droppings and disinfect the area.
Sealed it Up
Because the opening was to large to stuff it with our chew-proof metal mesh, we covered it with sturdy, metal hardware cloth as a temporary measure until the homeowner repairs the hole in the drywall.
Return for a Follow Up
Next, we installed several interior and exterior rodent bait stations in the kitchen, the crawl space, and around the exterior of the home. Lastly, we scheduled several follow up inspections to replenish the bait in the bait stations and monitor the infestation.
