Photo Album: Southern House Mosquito Delivered to Home in Mantoloking, NJ
Mosquitoes in the Laundry Room
As we inspected, we found a large number of mosquitoes in the laundry room, particularly around the windows and lights.
Invasive Mosquito
While examining the mosquitoes, we knew that they weren't native to New Jersey. So we used our Bug Finder app and that's when we identified them as Southern House Mosquitoes.
Southern House Mosquito
The southern house mosquito is a medium-sized brown mosquito that exists throughout the tropics and the lower latitudes of temperate regions. This species is found in the southern United States and throughout Florida. This nighttime-active, opportunistic blood feeder is a vector of many pathogens, several of which affect humans. So how exactly did this pest wind up in this home in New Jersey?!
The Turf Pee
Turns out, the homeowner ordered a Turf Pee pad for her dog that was delivered from Southern California. The mosquito larvae were harboring inside the pad and, once they reached adulthood, started infesting the home!
A Normal Thing
The homeowner called up the company and they mentioned that it was normal for these species of mosquitoes to harbor in their pads!
Get Rid of the Mosquitoes
We treated around all the windows and lights with a liquid application, which quickly exterminated the mosquitoes.
Leave it Outside
Next, we applied a residual application to the infestation areas, which will continue to eliminate the southern house mosquitoes. We recommended that the homeowner either dispose of the Turf Pee pad or leave it outside of the home to prevent any future issues with these mosquitoes.
