Photo Album: High Rise Hornets Nest in Fair Haven, NJ
We were sent out on a service call for a homeowner in Fair Haven, NJ to eliminate and remove a hornets' nest.
Yea, That's Pretty High
Upon arrival, we located the bald-faced hornets' nest, which was about 25 feet up in a tree in the front yard.
Their Nests
Bald-faced hornets build paper nests at least three or more feet off of the ground, usually in trees, shrubs, overhangs, houses, or other structures. These nests can be as large as 14 inches in diameter, more than 24 inches in length and are grey, paper-like, and enclosed. At their peak, their colonies may contain between 100 to 400 members!
No Sweat for Cowleys
After equipping our bee suits, we grabbed our ladder and began treating the nest from afar with a knockdown aerosol product and then a knockdown dusting application. Both of these treatments will rapidly eliminate the bald-faced hornets.
Now It's Gone
Several minutes later, we removed the nest and the branches it was attached to and disposed of them.
