Photo Album: Bald-Faced Hornets Move Up in Colts Neck, NJ
This week’s challenge was bald-faced hornets' nest attached to the soffit on the second story of this home in Colts Neck, NJ!
That's Pretty High Up
As you can see, the bald-faced hornets' nest was located pretty high up. We grabbed our ladder, equipped our bee suit, and began ascending toward the nest.
That Was Fast
The homeowner was surprised at the short period of time that it took for the hornets to create this basketball-sized nest without him noticing. Bald-faced hornets' are always expanding the nest to make room for the larvae inside. If left undisturbed, we have found as many three combs inside larger hornets' nests filled with larvae!
Our Knockdown Products
First, we applied an aerosol knockdown product to the nest. This allowed us to get closer in order to apply another knockdown product directly into the hive.
Remove the Nest
Once most of the bald-faced hornets' were dispatched, we removed the nest from the soffit and properly disposed of it.
Prevent Other Stinging Insects
We then treated the area with a residual product that will prevent any returning hornets from rebuilding the nest.
