Photo Album: Bad Bed Bug Infestation in Howell, NJ
Found The Bed Bugs
I inspected the room in question and found bed bug droppings and live activity on the bed frame, box spring, and pillows.
Info on Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are six-legged wingless insects that are relatively flat and oval in shape. Unfed adult bed bugs are mahogany in color whereas an engorged bed bug turns a red-brown color. The average adult bed bug is a quarter of an inch long and is about the width of a credit card. A newly hatched nymph can be the size of a pinhead. Both the nymphs and eggs of a bed bug are so small it is hard to see them without the use of a magnifying glass.
Remove Infected Materials
At the request of the homeowner, I carefully disposed of the pillows and sheets and vacuumed up the live bed bugs.
Bio-Pesticide Application
Next, I treated the baseboards, bed frame, and the surrounding areas with a bio-pesticide application. This product creates a barrier that infects and exterminates the bed bugs over a short period of time.
One More Thing
Lastly, I scheduled several follow-up visits to monitor the infestation and, if needed, apply any additional treatments.
