Photo Album: Skunks are Expert Diggers in Toms River, NJ
A lot of times, people confuse skunk burrows for groundhogs burrows. What many people don’t realize is that skunks are just as good if not better diggers than groundhogs.
That's a Skunk Burrow
If you look at the hole, it's triangular shape and definitely NOT big enough for a groundhog. A groundhog burrow will be more round, almost a perfectly circular. While a skunks burrow is only big enough for them to squeeze their head through. They can actually contort the rest of their body to fit through.
Retrieving the Skunk
In order to safely retrieve the skunk, we installed a positive set directly over the burrow, installed a rod in the front of the device, and installed a small portion of Dig Defense on each side so that the skunk can't dig around it. That way the skunk will have no other way to exit but through the device.
A Baited Device
We also set-up several baited devices nearby...
A Skunk Trap
... and a skunk trap.
Fill it In
Once we retrieve the skunk, we will relocate it to a new, humane location and fill in the burrow.
