Photo Album: Not Termites, But Odorous House Ants in Tinton Falls, NJ
This homeowner thought she had an infestation of termites in her home, so she called Cowleys and I was sent out to inspect.
Those Aren't Termites
Minutes into my inspection, I found the pests in question by the exterior bathroom window. I took a closer look and came to the conclusion that these weren't termites, but winged odorous house ants.
How to Tell the Difference
An easy way to distinguish the difference between the two is termites have a two body segment, a head and a waist, while ants have a three body segment, a head, thorax, and abdomen.
Aerosol Treatment
I started my treatment below the window and used an aerosol application. This product will exterminate the ants almost immediately and flush them out of hiding. Once I treated the area, the ants started pouring out!
Hit the Nest
Some ants were carrying egg capsules, this meant I hit their nest.
Non-Repellant Application
I then treated around the foundation with a liquid non-repellant application.
Share the Treatment
The ants will bring this application back to their nest and share it with one another, unknowingly spreading the treatment throughout the colony, ensuring rapid extermination of the ants.
