During a startup service for one of our Home Protection Plan clients in Jackson, NJ I came across a large infestation of midges.
Moisture Damage
When I began my inspection, I noticed that the upper deck area seemed to be damaged. When I got closer, I noticed that the area was severely damaged by moisture and was infested with midges!
What Are Midges
Midges are dainty flies that resemble mosquitoes and often dance together in the air in huge swarms. There are two types of midges that you will encounter in NJ, biting and non-biting. If you live near a body of water, the threat of non-biting midge swarms is present during late spring. Biting midges are a concern because of their ability to bite and cause allergic reactions.
Attracted the to Porch
Turns out that the midges were attracted to the massive moisture buildup around the deck! I informed the homeowner about the damage and he immediately called a contractor to fix the leak and repair the damage.
Get to Treating
I applied a liquid residual along the entire exterior perimeter of the home and directly to the area where the midge infestation was located. In no time at all, the midges will be exterminated.
