Photo Album: Citronella Ants Found Under the Pavement in Brick, NJ
During a startup service for a new Home Protection Plan client in Brick, NJ I found a colony of citronella ants in the backyard.
Something Odd
As I was treating the backyard, I noticed something odd by the paver bricks. As I lifted up them up, I uncovered a citronella ant nest!
What Are Citronella Ants
Citronella ants are small, yellow ants (approximately 4 mm in size) that emit a very strong citronella smell when crushed (hence their name).
Begin Treatment
I treated the area, underneath the paver bricks, and along the entire exterior of the home with a liquid non-repellant. Next, I applied a granular bait across the landscape.
So Long Citronella Ants
When the citronella ants come in contact with either of these treatments, they will bring these treatments back to their nest and share them with one another, including their queen. Shortly after, the ants are exterminated.
