Photo Album: Attic Insulation Contaminated by Raccoons in Somerset, NJ
We were called out to a home in Somerset, NJ to inspect the attic area for noises being heard.
A Torn Opening
When we began inspecting the property, we noticed that an area of the soffit was torn open. We took a closer look and found raccoon hair stuck in the opening.
Raccoon Footprints
We then inspected the attic and found raccoon paw prints...

...and raccoon droppings throughout the insulation.
Retrieving the Nuisance Wildlife
We installed a one-way over the main access point and enclosed the area temporarily with hardware cloth. We also placed several baited traps nearby. The one-way allows the raccoon to safely exit the attic, but is designed to prevent it from getting back in.
Once the Raccoon is Retrieved
Once we safely retrieve the raccoon, we'll relocate it to a humane location, remove the contaminated insulation, disinfect the attic area, reinsulate the attic with blown-in cellulose insulation, and seal up the access point with sturdy metal flashing.
