Photo Album: Conducting a Wood Destroying Insect Report in Chatsworth, NJ
I went out on a service call to perform a Wood Destroying Insect (WDI) report for a customer looking to buy a house in Chatsworth NJ.
Old House Borer Beetles
After a closer look, it was found to be Old house borer beetle activity. Old house borers are one of the most damaging wood-boring insects. They are members of the "long-horned beetle" family.
Not Just Old Homes
After inspecting the rest of the basement, I found several other locations with similar damage. Old house borer beetles are quite often found in newer construction rather than in old homes, unlike their name suggests. It can take several years for their eggs to hatch. This insect not only eats wood but also bores through it.
The Good News
The good news is that all the damage was old damage and there was no evidence of current activity at the time of my inspection.
Move Forward with the Sale
I spoke with our customer and explained that there was minor damage but no current infestation or activity. Now with the WDI report completed, the home buying process can continue.
