Photo Album: Face to Face with a Flying Squirrel in Freehold, NJ
This homeowner in Freehold, NJ had asked us to inspect her attic because she was hearing noises. When we did, we were face-to-face with a flying squirrel!
Presents in the Attic
We inspected the attic and found a large amount of feces in the insulation.
Found This Little Fella
As we turned around, we found a flying squirrel!
Don't Scare It
We slowly backed away, spoke to the homeowner, and contacted our wildlife division to come out and investigate further.
Chewed it Up
During their inspection, they found chew marks made by the flying squirrel in the ridge vent.
Flying Squirrels Are Rodents
Flying squirrels are rodents and live in colonies. Like all rodents, they must chew and gnaw to manage their continually growing incisors.
Easy Access
Our wildlife team set-up a one-way device, placed baited devices nearby, and temporarily enclosed the area in hardware cloth. The one-way will allow the flying squirrel to exit the area, but prevent it from getting back in. A short while later, they successfully retrieved the flying squirrel and relocated to a new, humane location.
Disinfect & Install Ridge-Guard®
Next, they then disinfected the attic area, removed the contaminated insulation, and installed Ridge-Guard®.
Reinforced and Protected
RIDGE-GUARD® is a system for guarding against animal entry at the roof ridge. It secures and reinforces the ridge vent shingles so no nuisance wildlife can enter. Now the homeowner will no longer have any issues with flying squirrels infesting her home.
