Photo Album: Grease and Dirty Dishes Causes Fruit Flies in Princeton, NJ
A restaurant in Princeton, NJ was having a rather large fruit fly infestation and needed Cowleys help to remove these troublesome pests.
Don't Cry Over Spilled Vinegar
We inspected the kitchen and saw a number of dark-eyed fruit flies harboring along the wall and near a rack. We took a closer look and noticed that a bottle of vinegar had spilled all over the area and wasn't cleaned up.
And Behind the Equipment
We then checked behind the equipment and found a buildup of grease and filth. Dark-eyed fruit flies thrive in moist, smelly organic debris and breed under equipment, near drains, sinks, and beverage taps where water can settle and allow a buildup of organic matter.
Dirty Dishes Too
There was also a few dirty dishes that were filled with discarded food waste. We spoke to the owner and his management team about these sanitation issues and told them that in order to have an effective treatment, these areas needed to be cleaned ASAP. They agreed and immediately began cleaning the area. In the meantime, we began our treatment.
Scrubbing and Baiting
First, I treated the surrounding area with a fly bait to control the adult fruit flies. Next, we removed all the debris and used a heavy-duty brush to thoroughly scrub every single one of the floor drains.
Eliminate Their Breeding Ground
Next, we applied a liquid application that removes the bad bacteria from the drain, which eliminates the fruit fly's breeding habitat. Lastly, we applied a bio-foam solution that removes the organic build-up, odors, and scum in the drain.
